Brand New Contemporary Home in Upper Rockridge with Bay Views

4 Beds      4 Baths      New Construction

6339 Contra Costa Rd. Oakland CA 94618

Captivating million dollar views of the San Francisco Bay, an extraordinary contemporary design and sustainable building concepts have created a spectacular home in the exclusive upper Rockridge neighborhood of Oakland.  The brand new construction, now complete, was designed by San Diego based architect Abhay Schweitzer, founder of Techne, and developer Carlos Plazola, owner of the award-winning Oakland-based BuildZig. The custom home, located at 6339 Contra Costa Road, is in a cul-de- sac location in one of Oakland’s premier neighborhoods.

Plazola and his team of artisans constructed the environmentally sustainable home with an impeccable attention to detail using fine, clean lines and natural finishes. As a result, they created a piece of art that encompasses the elements of water from the views framed by floor-to-ceiling windows, outdoor waterfalls and fountains to the rich ocean hues of the Italian Iris Ceremica tiles on the living room fireplace surround. The home took 13 months to construct including two months devoted to the installation of the floor-to-ceiling Arcadia windows with hand built frames, and additional time to hand cut the cement board exterior finishes.

Plazola says his inspiration was “to create something that was cutting edge and modern.” The goal was to present the homeowner with a clean canvas and “palette to express themselves.”

Make a grand entrance through the 12-foot tall and five- foot wide cedar front door and immediately bask in the beauty and openness of a two-level floor plan with a floating staircase ascending to the bedroom wing and a similar staircase descending into the great room with its soaring 22-foot ceiling and open floor plan. There are golden oak hardwood and sleek radiant heated porcelain tile floors, 9- and 10-foot ceilings, smooth level 5 wall finish, stylish European chrome LED light fixtures and the romantic glow of soft blue LED lights in the side courtyards reflecting off the windows.

Plazola is most proud of the highest quality construction that went into creating this home. Three inspection teams including a third-party inspection process ensures the home’s buyer is protected. Schweitzer calls the home “not only beautiful, but efficient, pleasant to be in, and a proper fit for the property.”

The home features four bedrooms, four bathrooms, gourmet kitchen, workshop, wine cellar, two-car garage and living space that seamlessly connects with outdoor balcony space in addition to two side courtyards and level backyard gardens.

Triple pane Arcadia windows allow copious amounts of natural light and ventilation into the rooms. There is high-grade insulation, TPO commercial grade roof that is not petroleum based, is highly reflective and does not leach out harmful chemicals that are detrimental to the environment and people, and a 3,000-gallon rainwater harvesting system.

The gourmet kitchen is open to the views and great room and features gorgeous custom walnut cabinetry, marble slab counters with a walnut butcher block station, large glass subway tile backsplash and 10-foot island with pendant lighting and deep stainless sink. Bosch stainless appliances are featured with a Paykel Fisher refrigerator.

The master bedroom suite is upstairs and features a private view balcony and spa-inspired bathroom with quartzite dual sink counter and floating walnut vanity, walk-in closet room with skylight, freestanding soaking bathtub and oversized shower with porcelain tile surround.  Two additional bedrooms are upstairs and have en-suite bathrooms and European style wardrobes.

The great room on the main level has a 22-foot ceiling and walls of windows on either side that open onto private courtyards. The room flows into an open and expansive dining area, study/family room and gourmet kitchen. A wall of window opens onto the balcony extending the entertaining space. Also on this level is the fourth bedroom ideal for in-law or guest with adjoining bathrooms and private access to the courtyard.

Contra Costa Road features a nearby walking path to Buena Vista Avenue. The ideal Upper Rockridge location is easily accessible from Highways 13, 24, and BART, and is conveniently close to shopping and dining in Rockridge and the scenic hiking and biking trails in Temescal Regional Recreation Area.
